LATEST NEWS by Jennis Williamson

As we step into May, we’re filled with immense gratitude and excitement.

The agency is thriving, and we’re already gearing up for the bustling winter market ahead. But more than the business, it’s the people behind the scenes who make the real magic happen — and this month, we want to celebrate our own!

Our Johannesburg office is especially buzzing with inspiration, not just from client bookings, but from personal victories too:

  • Thulani has just returned from the Dominican Republic, where she proudly represented South Africa as a cultural ambassador for the Stride Institute. We’re in awe of her passion and how she continues to make others shine on global stages.
  • Sean’s band dropped their first EP, and it’s already getting attention! We love watching our creatives express themselves in every possible way.
  • Pierre’s music management company is flying high — proving that great talent needs great guidance, and Pierre delivers both with excellence.
  • Tiaan and Alicia are fast becoming the voices of some of the biggest international dubbing series, and we can’t switch on without hearing their iconic tones.
  • Tania is not only heading up Crew & Accounts, this single mom of 2 is also a production manager and scheduler for Life-Etc.

Our Production division, Life-Etc™, continues to keep pace with the booming corporate world, working on large-scale projects for major brands. The demand is growing — and so are we.

To everyone who continues to align, create, and dream big — you inspire us daily. Here’s to another month of doing what we love, with people we believe in.

Love and light

CREW-ETC by TANIA DE VILLIERS

Change Is in the Air, but So Are We

Dear Crew-ETC Family,

As the year gathers pace and the industry continues to shift, we want to touch base with you—our incredible crew and partners—to share a little Crew-ETC heartbeat.
We’re not going anywhere, but we are in a moment of reflection and recalibration. The landscape is changing, and we’re doing what good crew always do: adapting, adjusting, and staying ready.

Safe Sets, Strong Foundations
One thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to Safe Sets. This isn’t just a protocol—it’s a mindset, and a standard we’ll always champion. In a fast-paced, high-pressure industry, kindness, safety, and professionalism aren’t negotiable. We’re proud to be known for that.

We’re Listening
These quieter seasons are also when we build. If you have ideas, needs, or input—now’s the time. Whether it’s upskilling, crew support, or something new you think the industry needs, we’re all ears.

Looking Forward
We’re still here, still connected, and still believing in what we built. Crew-ETC remains a place where crew matter, and where good people find good work.
Let’s keep building.

With gratitude and grit,
Tania

CAPETOWN-ETCby Thulani Ndzotyana

As we now leave the warm summer months, we have seen a decline in international work shooting in Cape Town. However there has been an influx of local films, series and TVCs starting their casting processes. There’s been a noticeable trend of productions seeking artists with specialised skills such as surfing, skating, being able to ride a motorcycle and various other sports. So in your downtime between work, look into taking on a new hobby and upskilling yourself as an artist! Be sure to keep your photos and CV’s updated as you grow into a multidisciplinary powerhouse, as this gives us the best possible tools to sell you to casting directors!

Love and light,
TETC CPT

THEATREby Katie Groves

Hey everyone,
Just had a meeting about our theatre division’s future, and I’m feeling very positive about what’s ahead for us. More details will follow soon.

I’ve been thinking about the journey of development we’re all on. It’s good to see our experienced performers still attending singing lessons. Remember: you’re never done learning. The moment you think you’ve mastered your craft is when you stop growing as an artist.

Whether you’ve been performing for years or just started auditioning, continuing development is essential. Each lesson, workshop, and challenging role helps us improve.

Looking forward to what comes next.
Love and light, Katie ✨

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

The Quiet Momentum

May often slips in quietly, without the urgency of January or the fatigue of April. But don’t underestimate this month—it holds powerful potential. It’s the bridge between the first half of the year and what’s still to come, offering a moment to pause, recalibrate, and move with intention.

Now’s a good time to ask: What’s working? What needs adjusting? What have I achieved that I haven’t taken a moment to celebrate?

Use this month to build quiet momentum. You don’t need dramatic changes or huge breakthroughs—just steady progress and honest effort. Whether you’re hitting your stride or still finding your rhythm, May is here to remind you: slow and consistent often wins the race.

Keep going—with clarity, with purpose, and with heart.

AWARDS SEASON IS HERE!

It’s that time of year again when the industry celebrates excellence! From film to theatre, awards season reminds us of the incredible talent shaping our screens and stages. If you’re working on something noteworthy, now is the time to start thinking about submissions and positioning yourself for nominations for the 12th Annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Television and Film Awards that will be hosted during the prestigious Durban International Film Festival and the Durban Film Mart.

As artists, we have the power to shape conversations and challenge perspectives. Climate change, sustainability, and environmental justice are no longer just scientific discussions—they are social and cultural issues that demand storytelling. Whether it’s through TV, theatre, or film, let’s push for narratives that make an impact. If you have a project idea that speaks to these themes, we’d love to hear about it and explore how we can support you.

As the industry keeps moving, let’s remember to prioritise our well-being. Stay safe on set, look after your mental and physical health, and keep striving for excellence. Here’s to a season of great performances, bold storytelling, and well-deserved recognition!

Love & Light!

But there’s no slowing down! We’re already deep into various corporate and commercial shoots for some of the biggest brands out there. These projects not only keep us creatively engaged but also ensure exciting opportunities for our Crew and Artists divisions. Connecting talent with top-tier productions is at the heart of what we do, and I’m thrilled to see how these collaborations unfold.

THEATREby Katie Groves

April is here, and with it comes a whirlwind of show openings, intense rehearsals, and the kind of hard work that sets true artists apart. The dedication I’m seeing is nothing short of inspiring—long hours, big challenges, and incredible performances taking shape. This is what it’s all about!

But let’s talk communication. If you’re in this industry, you already know that talent alone isn’t enough—professionalism, reliability, and clear communication are just as important. If you can’t make a deadline, can’t commit to a brief, or need clarity—say so. Silence helps no one, least of all yourself. Keep those lines open, respond when needed, and show up for yourself and your peers.

So, here’s to an April full of new beginnings, well-earned successes, and a whole lot of theatre magic. Keep pushing, keep showing up, and as always—if you need guidance, you know where to find me.

Love and light,
Katie

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

April often comes with its own set of challenges. The year is well underway, routines have settled, and for many, motivation starts to wane. The excitement of new beginnings has faded, and the finish line still feels far away. But this is exactly the time to refocus and push forward.  Instead of letting the mid-year lull take over, use April as a chance to realign with your goals. Take a moment to reflect on what’s working, what’s not, and what small changes can bring renewed energy. Whether it’s switching up your routine, tackling a long-postponed task, or simply appreciating how far you’ve come, a shift in mindset can make all the difference.  Momentum isn’t about big leaps—it’s built in small, consistent steps. So let’s take them, one day at a time.

Massive Improvement in Skill and Dedication-The progress we’ve seen this month has been nothing short of amazing. Whether you’ve been developing your technical skills or refining your performance abilities, the results are clear. The month of love meant those of us who LURVE the booth running from studio to studio using their vocal tools to achieve all kinds of interesting things!

Dubbing, corporate videos, TV spots, video games and educational training manuals – we did it all this month!

Artist of the month is Samantha Peo, who on top of playing the lead in the Addams Family musical in Cape Town, dubbed an entire block of episodes during the day while performing at night. Go Sam go! You can catch Sam as the voice of the lead-ing lady, Constanza, in “100 Days to Fall in Love” on Showmax (which we thought was quite apt for Valentines month!)

We appreciate all the requests for training and accent work, and are putting together a plan for workshops and accent classes for the year. Watch this space!

See ya all next month!

As opportunities continue to roll in, we encourage all artists to invest in additional skills—especially in stunts, combat training, and physical performance. These skills can open doors to exciting roles in action films, TV series, and theatre productions.

Lastly, a gentle reminder to update your headshots and CVs! A fresh look and well-structured resume can make all the difference when casting directors are making their selections.

Keep pushing forward, and let’s make this a season of growth and success!

Life ETC: A Bold New Chapter of Growth and Adventure
The journey of Life ETC (formerly known as Life in a Bulb Productions) has always been one of creativity, innovation, and storytelling that leaves an impact. Now, as we step into an exciting new phase, we are thrilled to share that some groundbreaking developments are on the horizon—ones that will not only expand our production capabilities but also elevate the Greater Talent ETC brand to unprecedented levels.

We’ve been working behind the scenes to forge new partnerships that will open doors to fresh opportunities, increased accessibility, and creative ventures we once only imagined. These collaborations will allow us to take our content, reach, and production quality to new heights, ensuring that Life ETC remains at the forefront of cutting-edge storytelling and me-dia production.

But this is more than just growth—it’s about evolution. With these new alliances, Life ETC will become an even more adventurous and dynamic brand, one that pushes boundaries, takes bold risks, and brings powerful, untold stories to the forefront. We believe in innova-tion, in creating spaces where talent thrives, and in continuously expanding our vision to offer something truly extraordinary.

While we can’t share all the details just yet, we promise that when everything is in place, it will mark the beginning of something truly special. So stay tuned, because the next chapter of Life ETC is about to unfold—and it’s going to be bigger, bolder, and more exciting than ever before!

Watch this space. The best is yet to come.

THEATREby Katie Groves

March is here, and the industry is buzzing! Briefs are coming in thick and fast, productions are well underway, and our artists are showing up with dedication, professionalism, and heart.

A quick reminder—knowing your strengths (and your limits) is key. If you’ve never trained in ballet, you wouldn’t audition for a ballet company, and the same logic applies to theatre. Being honest with yourself when looking at a brief and your CV is not about limitation; it’s about putting yourself forward for the right opportunities. No one can do everything, but knowing where you shine? That’s where the magic happens.

Featured Artist Sam Peo

This month, we celebrate the phenomenal Sam Peo—a recent Fleur du Cap nom inee, but more importantly, the embodiment of what it means to be a true artist and teammate. Sam is being featured not just for her immense talent but for her unwa-vering generosity of spirit. She has taken fellow artists under her wing, supported them with care, and continuously uplifted those around her.

We are so lucky and proud to represent someone who lives and breathes the core values of this industry—collaboration, gratitude, team spirit, and the joy of rais-ing each other up. Sam, your kindness and humility (paired with that extraordinary talent) inspire us all!

Meanwhile, rehearsals and opening nights are happening at full speed—I am so thrilled for all our artists stepping into exciting new projects!

As always, my (metaphorical) door is open. If you need guidance, clarity, or just a chat, pop me a WhatsApp.

Love and light,
Katie

Overcoming February Fatigue and Stepping into March with Energy

February can feel like the longest short month of the year. The excitement of the new year has worn off, routines feel repetitive, and motivation starts to dip. But with March comes a shift—a chance to refresh, refocus, and finish the first quarter of the year strong.

As summer gives way to autumn, embrace the change. Set small, realistic goals, shake up your routine, and take advantage of the cooler days to re-energize. Whether it’s refining a work habit, finding time for personal growth, or simply ac-knowledging how far you’ve come since January, March is a reminder that every season brings new opportunities.

Let’s push through and move forward with purpose!

No rest for the dubbers who were back in studio in the first few days of January – and we couldn’t be prouder!

Dubbing continues to thrive with the current bouquet of Spanish Telenovelas coming to an end, we welcomed in some lead roles for new animations for Philip Jacobs and Monde Msutwana.

Anelle Bester also did us proud narrating a documentary which will be on streaming platforms soon.

Thanks to all voice artists for hitting the ground running, I know 2025 is going to be the best yet!

Think Outside the Box: A Fresh Perspective on TV and Film Production

The world of television and film production is brimming with creativity, but true innovation comes when we dare to think outside the box. In an industry driven by formulas and familiar tropes, pushing boundaries can set your project apart.

1. Storytelling Beyond Conventions
Traditional narratives have their place, but audiences crave originality. Experiment with non-linear timelines, untold perspectives, or merging genres. What if your sitcom incorporated elements of mystery, or your drama adopted a documentary style? Innovation in storytelling can redefine what viewers expect.

2. Diverse Voices and Representation
Fresh ideas often come from unheard voices. Seek out stories from underrepresented communities or cultures. Authentic representation not only enriches your content but also connects deeply with a broader audience.

3. Leverage Emerging Technologies
Virtual production, AI, and immersive VR experiences are reshaping the production landscape. Think of using 360-degree cameras to tell stories that allow the audience to choose their perspective or employing AI to create adaptive scripts based on viewer choices.

4. Sustainability in Production
Thinking outside the box also means considering how we produce. Explore eco-friendly practices—like using renewable energy on set or recycling materials—to align with growing audience demand for responsible production.

5. Interactive Experiences
Why not let your audience become part of the story? Interactive TV and film, where viewers make decisions that impact the plot, is a growing trend. Platforms like Netflix are already embracing this with projects like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

6. Collaborate Across Mediums
Merge mediums to tell your story in innovative ways. Consider transmedia storytelling: a narrative spread across TV, social media, podcasts, or even video games. This approach allows viewers to engage with your story on multiple levels.

The key to thinking outside the box in TV and film production lies in taking risks, embracing diversity, and pushing creative boundaries. The possibilities are endless when we challenge ourselves to see the world, and our stories, differently.

Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and create something ex-traordinary? The world is waiting for your unique vision!

Theatre-ETC has kicked off with a BANG. The briefs are rolling in… but the responses… not so much!

This is just a friendly reminder that it’s always best to let us know it’s a no, and to maybe explain why. I am always available, and happy, to enter into a conversation about why you do/don’t want to do a brief. I always have motive on my side for why I have sent that brief to you.

In other news, rehearsals and opening nights are happening at a rate! I am so excited for all our artists who have booked and begun over the holidays and January!

As always,
My (metaphorical) door is always open… please pop me a WhatsApp if you ever are confused or need guidance in the theatre world.

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

We’re officially well in 2025 and things are busy as ever. With February being the month of love, try to take time to appreciate those around you. Our relationships with others, and not just romantic relationships, are crucial for navigating through the world. To have someone to talk to about your struggles, accomplishments and the goals you’re working towards can help you refocus your perspective on life. We are social beings and spending time with others is crucial.

Sometimes we take these important relationships for granted. So this month, look at the people you have around you and recognise the role they play in your life. When we spend time appreciating and wishing well towards others, we spend less time time worrying about our problems and more time fo-cusing on a positive energy in our lives, which can have a tremendous impact on our mental wealth!

And lastly, don’t be afraid the let the people in your life know how much you appreciate them. A kind word from a friend could be all someone needs to make it through a difficult day.

All the best,
Sean

As the festive season rolls in and the year winds down, it’s time to reflect, rest, and prepare for what promises to be an explosive 2025. December is not just about taking a well-deserved break but also about sharpening your tools and getting ready for the opportuni-ties ahead.

This month, I want to focus on the importance of resting, recovering, and preparing. Take this time to breathe, recharge, and take stock of everything you’ve accomplished this year. It’s been a whirlwind, and you deserve to celebrate your wins!

At the same time, use December wisely to rehone your skills and grow in new areas. Go to dance classes, dive into vocal prep, or pick up a new skill that could add to your versatility. Whether it’s tackling that tricky monologue or finally nailing a new accent, make sure you’re in top shape for the coming year.

Speaking of 2025—it’s going to be a big one for the theatre division. There are exciting shifts on the horizon, and I’ll share more details soon. For now, just know that the stage is set for even bigger opportunities, and we’re going to hit the ground running. Theatre artists, be ready to work even harder than you did this year!

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

And just like that 2024 has come to an end. Wishing everyone a restful holiday season spent with loved ones. And for January a period of rejuvenation and renewal. May we go into 2025 with motivation and experience gained from the year before. May we start the year with clear goals and objectives, and with clear plans on how to achieve them.

But most importantly through this period of introspection and change, remember to be gen-tle and kind with yourself. Don’t be hard on yourself for the mistakes you made in 2024 or not being able to stick to new year resolutions. Recognise your humanity, and with that the fact that you’ll never be perfect. You’ll make mistakes for the rest of your life, and the sooner you realise and accept this truth, the sooner you’ll be able to not take it so seriously when it happens. The only person you are guaranteed to spend the rest of your life with is yourself, so make sure they’re a friend.

All the best,
Sean

Courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it (Nelson Mandela). The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. It’s natural to feel fear in many circumstances, but personally, I find it not sensible within our line of work. People experience fear when they feel threatened or unsafe, which is a natural part of our survival instincts. At castings, we are under no pressure to survive, nor are we threatened, so let us go into castings this coming month without fear. Rather replace fear with confidence and determination. Wishing you all a productive final month of the year.

Hi all!

Can you believe we’re already in the final stretch of 2024? Only one and a half months left before the year wraps up, and now’s the time to crush those goals. It’s been a whirlwind, and for many of us, a rough year in terms of mental awareness. If there’s one thing I’ve seen over and over again, it’s that we need to TALK to each other. Silence only leads to inner turmoil – it festers, it poisons. This year reminded me more than ever how vital communication is.

On a brighter note, we’ve just kicked off shooting the second season of Stralend, and I’m so excited about what’s ahead. We’ve broken records this year, and at this pace, I can hardly imagine what 2025 will bring for all of us.

The success of my first book, Finding Your Spotlight, has opened doors beyond anything I could have dreamed. Now, I’m gearing up for something equally special – my second journal launches on 1 December! I’m beyond thrilled to share it with you all.

Let’s finish 2024 strong. Keep pushing, keep talking, and let’s make every moment count.

CAPE TOWN-ETC by Thulani Ndzotyana

It has been an incredibly busy season here in Cape Town, with the city buzzing with productions and casting calls. As opportunities continue to rise, now is the perfect time for all actors to take their craft to the next level.

1. Urgent Casting Calls – Get Ready to Audition!
Cape Town’s film and television industry is thriving, and we are urging actors to stay alert for up-coming auditions. Casting agents are on the lookout for fresh faces, and this is your chance to shine. Keep an eye on the latest casting opportunities and ensure your profiles are updated and ready to go!

2. Polish Your Accents – Versatility is Key!
With more international productions choosing Cape Town as their filming destination, actors with versatile accents are in high demand. Wheth-er it’s nailing a flawless American or British accent, or mastering regional South African accents, this is your moment to stand out. Now is the time to invest in accent training and make sure you’re ready for roles from all over the world.

3. The Stunt Advantage – Add to Your Skillset
Physicality is becoming a key component of many roles, especially in action-packed productions. Actors with stunt training are gaining an edge in the industry, and we strongly encourage you to consider investing in stunt work. Whether it’s stage combat, wire work, or martial arts, being able to perform your own stunts can open doors to more diverse and exciting roles.

Cape Town is buzzing with opportunity, and we want you to be fully prepared. Don’t miss out on these chances to elevate your career, expand your skills, and stand out in a competitive industry.

Let’s keep the momentum going!

SOCIAL-ETC by Thulani Ndzotyana

At Social ETC, we are passionate about seeing brands extend their influence beyond just social media content curation. While curating captivating content is es-sential, the most exciting growth happens when brands take it a step further by involving influencers in more dynamic roles – like hosting events, becoming MCs, and engaging in deeper brand-related work.

When brands collaborate with influencers in these roles, they elevate their au-thenticity and reach, creating meaningful, real-world connections with their audiences. It’s an approach that allows influencers to use their platform and person-ality to bring the brand’s story to life in fresh, engaging ways. These collaborations demonstrate the value of treating influencers as partners who embody the brand’s identity both on and offline.

We love watching influencers evolve into key figures in brand activations, helping brands build not only online presence but also a physical and emotional connection with their target market. Whether it’s hosting, leading campaigns, or being the face of an event, these roles showcase the true potential of influencer partnerships.

At Social ETC, we encourage brands to think outside the box and leverage influencer talent in innovative ways that push their engagement beyond social media. Let’s continue to explore these exciting possibilities!

Theatre-ETC: November Spotlight
As the year begins to wind down, we’re still racing along, fueled by the incredible drive and dedication of our talented artists. With productions kicking off, debuts being made, and rehearsals in full swing, our artists continue to prove what hard work and passion can achieve.

This month, I want to spotlight two exceptional individuals who embody the spirit of commitment and resilience: Brendan Moorcroft and Brett de Groot.

Brendan Moorcroft
Brendan is one of the most committed and hard-working artists I’ve had the pleasure to work with. He never misses an opportunity—whether it’s replying to audition calls, engaging with the material, or sending in self-tapes for almost every single brief I send him. On top of that, he balances his schoolwork, takes singing lessons to prepare for each audition, and somehow still found the energy to perform in productions five times a week for four months straight! His dedication to growth and development is awe-inspiring, and I’m incredibly proud to have him on our roster. Brendan’s journey serves as a testament to what perseverance and hard work can achieve
.
Brett de Groot
Brett had his debut as Mickey Mouse in The Magic Box at Artscape late October, a milestone that highlights his incredible fortitude and adaptability. Although he has always considered singing and dancing his strengths, this role has pushed him far beyond his comfort zone, and the results have been extraordinary. Beyond his performance, Brett’s nurturing and giving nature make him an invaluable presence to his colleagues, often taking on a parental role within the cast. His approach to holistic giving and mentoring is the essence of what we value at Theatre-ETC. He’s truly a beacon of hard work and resilience.

As we push toward the end of the year, I encourage all of you to stay strong and committed to your craft. Keep honing your abilities, but also remember the importance of self-care. Finding the balance between growth and rest is essential to sustaining long-term success. Let’s make sure we’re not only prepared for upcoming opportunities but also looking after ourselves in the process.

Finally, I want to send some good vibes to a few of our artists heading into rehearsals: Dithabe, Sam, and Yahto as they gear up for The Addams Family, Duandre who starts rehearsals for Aspoestertjie the pantomime, and a huge congratulations to Jock for successfully completing a full month of panto rehearsals!

Here’s to finishing the year strong and setting ourselves up for success in 2025.

As always, love and light,
Katie

The end of the year often leads to people getting into a December mindset prematurely but there is still work to be done! While others go on holiday mode you have an opportunity to stand out and get work. It’s the final push, keep going and always put your best foot forward.

TRAINING HUB with Tiaan Kelderman

It is an absolute blessing to have the opportunity to sit one-on-one with each artist who submits to the Training Hub. As an agent, not only do I get to catch up on a personal level, but the actor in me also engages in in-depth conversations about our craft.

The insights shared and the growth in skill that I’ve witnessed from our artists have been a true pleasure. The number of submissions and the diligence we see from our artists clearly prove that this is an exercise worth investing in.

Thank you for all the hard work and the understanding that, as artists, we are constantly honing our craft. This is an art we all deeply love and strive to perfect, and engaging in insightful conversations and workshops is the ideal way to achieve that.

November will be our last Training Hub for the year, and I look forward to ending it on a high note.
Thank you again!

LAST THOUGHT by Pierre Ball

What is your definition of success? How do you feel when faced with failure? Let us take a moment to view Mr Churchill’s definition : “Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” In order to master success, one must master failure, or should I say, at least know failure well. Many have said, failure is the stepping stone to success. Coaches say a loss makes a fighter come back stronger. Let us walk into November knowing where and what we have done to become the person we are today. Let us walk with our heads high, straight into our next audition with no fear of failure. Let’s leave imposter syndrome in the back of our thoughts and embrace all opportunities placed before us.

Hi all

As we step into October in a yer that has been the best for Talent-Etc™ since opening its doors in 2009, it’s hard to ignore the collective tiredness and frustration that have crept into the industry. We’re all feeling it—the long hours, the relentless pace, and the emotional toll of giving our all every single day. But now, more than ever, is the time to dig deep and find that last surge of energy to push through.

This is a crucial moment in the year. These final months can be what sets us apart, the chance to go from good to great, from acceptable to exceptional. The challenges we’re facing now? They’re not roadblocks, but opportunities. It’s in this grind, this uphill battle, where true growth happens. When we push past the fatigue, we uncover new levels of resilience and creativity we didn’t know we had.

To our actors

You’ve carried your characters through stories that will move audiences. As we approach the end stretch of 2024, remember why you started this journey. The passion that brought you here is still alive, waiting for that final breakthrough. Every scene, every line, every moment counts more than ever. This is the time to shine brighter, dig deeper, and bring your characters to life in ways that will leave lasting impressions.

To our Clients

You’ve trusted us with your visions, and we’re here to ensure those visions become a reality. We understand the pressure you’re under, the deadlines looming, and the projects that need to be finalised. But trust in the process. Together, we can use this momentum to make magic happen.

Let’s finish strong, as a team, with the determination to not only meet but exceed the expectations of what’s possible. We’ve made it this far; let’s take pride in the journey and celebrate every win along the way.

Here’s to closing out 2024 with purpose, passion, and persistence.

Let’s make it count!

Maximizing Your Actor Profile and Portfolio in Cape Town

As an actor, it’s essential that your profile and portfolio are presented at their absolute best. Here are a few important reminders to ensure you’re putting your best foot forward:

  • Keep Your CV Accurate and Updated: Ensure your acting CV includes your latest roles, particularly those that have aired. Make sure to list any accents or special skills that may set you apart. Accuracy is key, and an up-to-date CV helps casting directors know what you’re capable of.
  • Be Mindful of NDAs: While it’s exciting to share new projects, remember that Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) are binding. Avoid adding new work to your CV or sharing details until the production has aired. Timing is everything, and you don’t want to jeopardize your professional relationships by disclosing work too early.
  • High-Quality Headshots and Portfolio Images: One of the biggest challenges we’ve encountered is the quality of images actors are using, especially when distinguishing between acting and commercial work. These two industries are different, and it’s important that your images reflect the specific requirements of each. Make sure your headshots and portfolio images align with the type of work you’re targeting.
  • Exciting Opportunities in Cape Town: We have a wave of new briefs coming in for Cape Town actors, so this is the perfect time to ensure your portfolio stands out. Make the necessary updates and present yourself in the best light.

By paying attention to these details, you can enhance your chances of landing great roles in both the acting and commercial industries. Let’s make the most of the opportunities coming your way!

Get Ready for Events and Campaigns: Summer is Coming!

As the events and campaign season heats up, it’s the perfect time for content creators to assess their engagement and goals. With summer around the corner, brands are on the lookout for content creators who are active and engaging. To make sure you’re ahead of the game, here are a few tips:

  • Evaluate Your Engagement: Take a close look at your current engagement metrics. Are you reaching your target audience effectively? Adjust your strategies to maximize your reach and impact.
  • Set Clear Goals: Define what you want to achieve this summer. Whether it’s increasing followers, boosting engagement, or collaborating with new brands, having clear goals will help you stay focused and motivated.
  • Update Your Media Kit: Make sure your media kit is current and includes your latest statistics, rates, and high-quality images. An up-to-date media kit will make it easier for PR agencies and brands to consider you for their campaigns.
  • Stay Active: Brands love content creators who are consistently busy. Keep your content fresh and engaging to maintain interest and attract new opportunities.

As you prepare for the busy season ahead, keep these tips in mind to ensure you’re ready to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.

We’ve sprung into action as the season picks up!

The Durban Film Mart has just introduced an exciting new initiative—Filmmart.Africa Hub, an online platform for film professionals to connect, share resources, and access the most up-to-date industry information. It provides a gateway to connect with other industry professionals, and we’re thrilled about the opportunities it will bring to our talent and the wider community.

A huge congratulations to all our talent who have been on set recently, especially Sihle Nzima, who is back shooting with Sibongile and the Dlamini’s. Halala Sihle! We can’t wait to see what mischief and magic your character gets up to. We are also incredibly excited to see Mam’ Thembi Mtshali-Jones and Razeen Dada in Blood Legacy, now streaming on Netflix. Your brilliance continues to make us proud.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of Darlington Micheals and Sello Motloung. Your incredible contributions to the arts and entertainment industry will always be treasured. You have left an indelible mark on the South African arts and entertainment industry.

Tip to Prevent Burnout: As we reach the last quarter of the year, prioritising self-care is important. Remember to schedule downtime between projects, maintain a balanced routine, and practice mindfulness to help manage stress. Taking care of your mental and physical health will ensure you finish the year strong!

Stay connected for more exciting updates on our socials. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Happy October,

Theatre is booming as usual!

Nothing new to report, the lights are on, the spotlights are shining and the curtains are staying open.

As always, just a call to action to please keep attending auditions, keep yourself audition fit, get going to singing and dancing lessons.

I am always here to help if you have any theatre questions.

As always,

Love and light!

Katie

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

October has been traditionally seen as a month of wealth, prosperity, peace and fertility as it is the month when farmers would harvest their crops. As we go into the last few months of the year, take a moment to reflect on the work you’ve put in this year and how it has lead you to where you are now. The actions you do today will shape the rest of your life. So take every opportunity to invest in your craft today so that one day you can look back and be grateful for the work you’ve put in.

Keep working hard and pushing yourself to be the best version of you you can be.

Wishing you all the best,

Sean

LAST THOUGHT by Pierre Ball

There’s no point trying to be perfect, instead, perfect your authentic self. It’s a toxic desire to try to be perfect. I realised later in life that the challenge is not to be perfect, but rather It is to be whole. Collecting information, knowledge and discover secrets using everything in your power to improve and see yourself as something more. Nothing is unreachable, apart from the audition you didn’t go too. Wishing you an amazing October.

CREW-ETC by TANIA DE VILLIERS & FRANKIE OPPERMAN

“Au revoir, mes amis. “

In 2019 I was approached by Jennis Williamson and JC Snooke to help create a crew division as one of the new legs at Talent-ETC. These guys had big dreams for the company and Crew-ETC was part of that bigger picture. With nothing but blood, sweat and a few tears we built it from the ground up to a fully functioning business that could financially hold its own. Today it is still thriving and ever evolving. It is something that I’m super proud of.

The time has come however to take a step back. Having joined the TETC group while also still being a working producer and director with my own production company, that side of my career path has thankfully continued to prosper. It is now at such a stage that I need to put my full focus and time into my production company and invest further into my future as a freelancer as well. I leave Crew-ETC in the steady and very capable hands of Tania de Villiers, who has levelled up so much during her time at Crew-ETC. The ship is going to keep on sailing to new and exciting waters.

Talent-ETC has been an environment that has allowed me to grow as an individual, make friends that have become family and help countless people garner work in an often-hostile and thankless industry. We started from nothing, made it through a pandemic and kept on growing and pushing boundaries. To the entire TETC family (that includes every person who’s worked here and every individual we’ve represented), I salute you. May you keep taking those strides forward, changing the fortunes of many and leaving a mark on the industry.

All the best,
Frankie

For the Future

While it’s bittersweet to see Frankie step back, I’m excited to take the reins and steer this ship forward. He’s left big shoes to fill, and I promise to do my best to uphold the high standards and vision he set. I’m confident that Crew-ETC will continue to thrive and explore new horizons.

We wish Frankie all the success as he focuses on his production company and future endeavors.

The journey continues!

Let’s do this!

Season of Growth and New Beginnings

Spring is bringing growth and new beginnings to Talent-Etc! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind as we’ve been busy with the opening of our new and refurbished offices in Johannesburg. This space is set to become the heart of where our artists’ dreams take shape. We’re also thrilled to welcome back our KZN HODs, Justin and Fundi, from their successful work trip in the USA. Your global insights are invaluable as we continue to expand our horizons.

Celebrating Our Stars

A huge congratulations to our talented artists Carishma Basday, Charushka Singh, and Emily Govender, who are currently on set for an exciting new Amazon Prime production. We’re incredibly proud of your achievements and can’t wait to see the final product.

Kudos as well to Zenzo Msomi and Fundi Zwane for wrapping up an amazing corporate shoot on the beautiful south coast of Durban in Sezela. Your hard work and dedication continue to set the standard.

And in even more thrilling news, we’re delighted to announce that our legendary Dr Thembi Mtshali-Jones is joining the cast of a well-known series. Keep an eye on our socials for more details on this exciting development!

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

September is the month of new beginnings. The world around is rejuvenated and reborn from months of dormant cold. For some us, we can take inspiration from nature. Whether you feel like you’ve been in a rut, or even if everything’s going well, every new day is an opportunity for change and grow into the person you want to be.

Change can be hard. We grow set in certain ways of doing things. But the first step is knowing where you want to improve, and the next time an opportunity arises, you now have a decision to act the way you want to be, not who you’ve been conditioned to be.

To a new month with new beginnings, we wish you all the best.

THEATREby Katie Groves

Theatre-ETC, is as per usual, racing along like a wildfire.

We have some very exciting productions coming up, with our awesome talent headlining a fair amount of them.

I have decided to do a monthly spotlight, to illustrate the hardworking talent that we have on our books. The two artists I want to spotlight this month are Yahto Kraft and Ntshikeng Matooane.

Yahto is one of the most hardworking artists I have ever worked with. From taping in a hotel lobby while in between shows, to committing to shave his hair of for the authenticity of a character, he never shies away from fully committing to a character. He can currently be seen in Meatloaf – a creative tribute show at the Cirk in Cresta. Later in the year he will be playing the role of Uncle Fester in the Addams Family musical. Favourite memory of Yahto is when I called him to confirm him for Addams – there was a loud thump – and I asked if he was okay and he said “ya I just fell over.”

The second spotlight is on Ntshikeng Matooane. She booked a supporting character in her FIRST big musical theatre audition, and her trailblazing has not stopped since then! You can catch her alongside Yahto in Meatloaf, and also in most schools, were she also shows off her puppeteering skills as part of the Bizzy Hands children’s productions. She is a phenomenal dancer, singer and actress, and her old instagram name – Giggles, is exceptionally accurate. My favourite memory of Ntshikeng is telling her she booked a role, and she said “can I call you back – I need to call my mom.” Without revealing too much, look for her name in lights at the beginning of next year as well.

As always, love and light,

Katie

Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate the women in our lives and reflect on the progress we’ve made towards gender equality, while also acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.

This month, we highlight the amazing women keeping all the men at the Talent-Etc™ offices at bay. We appreciate and celebrate you Thulani, Katie, Alicia, Kristy, Fundi, Tania, Lara & Tania.

We’ve begun walking down our new pathway at a leaner and meaner Crew-Etc and it’s an exciting time that lies ahead of us. Less is more as we navigate the winter months that lie ahead.

Whether its narrative, reality, commercials or studio, our freelancers are ready to jump your productions. Stay tuned on social media for updates and highlights from our talented lineup of freelancers.

CAPE TOWN-ETC by Thulani Ndzotyana

Are you a region-based actor or a South African-based actor? Understanding this distinction can significantly help you establish your footprint in the industry. Many productions prefer booking artists based in the city where the production shoots, especially for long-format telenovelas.

As a storyteller, it’s important to consider: do you see yourself as a regional artist or a national artist? Identifying your focus can open up more opportunities and better align your career with industry demands.

VOICE-ETC by Kristy Suttner

Dubbing is still the order of the day this month with 15 artists being cast in a new production, and many moving between different studios as they hone their skills. Well done to new additions Larissa Jordaan and Dihan Keun for joining the Dubbing fold!

Corporate work has also been plentiful with Yule Oswald booking a nice campaign, and Lerole Phakoa doing some fun stuff in the booth for Chicken Licken.

Our first Accent Neutralisation graduates have completed the course and we look forward to hearing their neutral accents going froward. Look out for the next intake if you’re looking to neutralise your accent, this also helps enable learning foreign accents for both On Camera and Voice work.

August serves as a reminder of resilience and perseverance. The colder months can be challenging, but they also provide a unique opportunity for introspection and growth. Just as nature rests and rejuvenates in winter, allow yourself time to recharge and reflect. Embrace the quiet strength within you and use this time to prepare for the vibrant energy that spring will soon bring. Stay motivated, stay warm, and let the stillness of winter inspire you to achieve your goals with renewed vigor.

Wishing you all a strong and reflective August!

THEATREby Katie Groves

Hello hello,

Hope you are warm and well in this icy July!

The theatre division has been continuing its running start, with a record-breaking month of bookings. The division has been filled with discover, connection and inspiration. The big lesson for this month is to treat yourself as a South African artist. Providing and pushing yourself into different spaces in order to access opportunities is crucial—don’t let travel be a barrier to your success. My advice would be to start a savings account dedicated to your craft and invest in your future.

The highlight of this month was a trip to Cape Town, where we uncovered incredible talent and engaged with passionate theatre practitioners and creators. The vibrant theatre scene and the dedication of local artists were truly inspiring.

I am also thrilled to spotlight the incredible artists currently working and rehearsing: Ntshikeng Matooane, Dihan Keun, Alicia Badenhorst, Jermain Johnson, Dante Du Plessis, Larissa Jordaan, Bongiwe Jiyane, Nozi Tamia, Bulelo Landman, Kaitlin-Anne, Priya Bandu, Evanca Moolman, Brendan Moorcroft, Yahto Kraft, Oliver Kelfkens, Nana Bulabula, Kirsten Dickinson, and Erin Blieden. Your dedication and passion light up our stages and hearts.

Stay inspired, stay adventurous, and keep the spotlight shining on your amazing talents!

With theatrical love and (spot)light

Katie

Training Hub is booming!

First off, just a huge thank you to the dedication that you’ve put in your training hub submissions. We’ve seen more and more of you participating and diligently coming back each month.

I am hopeful that this is an indication that you are all valuing the sessions as much as we are. I am learning so much from each one of our artists and spending the last few months with you has truly crafted stronger relations.

I look forward to more artists participating and walking a journey with us to truly master your unique style in performing, creating the best self tapes you can and to fully immerse yourself in each character.

Together we will create a stronger and more proficient agency, where all casting directors can know they will only receive top quality from Talent-ETC.

LAST THOUGHT by Pierre Ball

August is the month when many great inventions, works of art, and scientific discoveries were first patented, trademarked, or copyrighted. August is a very special month to me as it is my birth month as well as a reminder that the year is almost over but not quite, so we still have the opportunity to make something big happen before the year ends. A little more persistence, a little more effort and what seemed to be a hopeless year for some, may turn to be a gloriously successful year. No matter what we do this month, also remember, a little more effort goes a long way. I encourage you to get up and make it happen and I wish you a blessed month filled with many opportunities.

LATEST NEWS by Jennis Williamson

Hi all!
July is here, and with it, the official kick-off of our season! I am thrilled to share that our team is already exceeding our target estimations and goals. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, talent, and hard work that drives us. We’re excited to continue building on this momentum throughout the rest of the year.

As we step into the heart of the season, I want to take a moment to celebrate our collective success. Surpassing our initial goals so early in the season is incredibly encouraging. Our commitment to excellence and our unwavering passion for our projects are the driving forces behind this success. We will keep pushing the envelope and setting new benchmarks as we progress.

Looking ahead, several exciting trends are emerging in the industry that actors should be aware of:
Diversity and Inclusion: The push for greater representation continues to grow. This trend is not just about on-screen roles but also about the diversity of voices behind the scenes. Embrace this change and seek out roles and projects that reflect a broader spectrum of experiences.

Eco-Friendly Productions: Sustainability is becoming a priority in the entertainment industry. Productions are increasingly adopting green practices. Actors can contribute by supporting and advocating for eco-friendly projects.

Social Media Presence: A strong online presence remains crucial. Engage with your audience on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. Share your journey, projects, and behind-the-scenes glimpses to build a loyal fan base.

Mental Health Awareness: There’s a growing emphasis on mental well-being in the industry. More productions are recognizing the importance of supporting their cast and crew’s mental health. Look for roles in projects that prioritize a healthy work environment.

As we continue to thrive and embrace new opportunities, it’s essential to talk about the importance of setting boundaries within our industry. The entertainment world is fast-paced and demanding, and it can be easy to lose oneself.

Setting clear boundaries is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Here are a few tips to help navigate this:
Know Your Limits: Understand your physical and emotional limits and communicate them clearly to your team and collaborators.

Take Breaks: Regular breaks are vital to avoid burnout. Make sure to schedule downtime, even in the busiest periods.
Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out for help or support when needed. Whether it’s a mentor, a therapist, or a trusted friend, having someone to talk to can make a significant difference.

Stay Grounded: Keep a part of your life separate from your work. Engage in hobbies, spend time with loved ones, and take care of your health.

By respecting and maintaining our boundaries, we ensure not only our personal well-being but also our long-term success and creativity in the industry.

As we dive deeper into the season, let’s continue to support each other and stay focused on our goals. Our collective efforts have already led us to surpass our targets, and with the trends and practices we’re adopting, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.

Love and light

We are incredibly proud of the strides our Social ETC division has made. We represent personalities who are trained thespians, understanding the power of their brands and authentically linking them with global brands.

Recently, our talents Anlia and Tamsyn walked for L’Oréal at South African Fashion Week, reflecting the organic work they have been doing with their hair campaigns. Our Mandisi continues to use his skits to highlight the importance of representation in society. Known as “the kitchen girly,” he has made incredible strides with his brand deal with MTN.

Additionally, we unlocked our very first international brand trip with Candice, who continues to be a friend of the Nivea Brand. She was one of a handful of personalities selected to visit the Nivea Headquarters in Germany.

We look forward to continuing this journey of growth and success.

Our Voice Artists are fired up this month working on multiple productions at three different dubbing studios .Amongst others, Sizwe Zuma, Megan Carelse, Philip Jacobs, Oliver-Che Naidu and one of our newest Voice-Etc members, Rian Terblanche, are all working very hard balancing multiple productions.

Our Accent Neutralisation Classes have been extremely successful so far with our first group halfway through their course and already making huge strides in the right direction. Look out for our next course happening soon. Accent Neutralisation is essential prior to embarking on learning new accents such as US or British.

Finding Inspiration to Pitch TV and Film Ideas

Finding inspiration to pitch TV and film ideas can sometimes feel like an elusive quest, especially in a landscape brimming with content. However, inspiration is often lurking in the unlikeliest of places, waiting to be discovered. Here are some strategies to help unearth that next big idea.

1. Draw from Personal Experiences:
Your life is a treasure trove of unique stories waiting to be told. Whether it’s a quirky family tradition, an unforgettable travel adventure, or a personal triumph over adversity, your own experiences can provide a rich foundation for compelling narratives. Authenticity resonates with audiences, making personal stories a goldmine for inspiration.

2. Observe the World Around You:
Sometimes, the best ideas come from simply paying attention to the world. People-watching, eavesdropping on conversations (ethically, of course), and observing everyday interactions can spark ideas. The nuances of human behavior, the peculiarities of strangers, and the unexpected moments in daily life can all serve as fertile ground for storytelling.

3. Engage with Different Media:
Books, music, art, and even video games can be incredible sources of inspiration. Immersing yourself in diverse forms of media can broaden your perspective and help you see new possibilities for storytelling. A haunting melody might inspire a poignant drama, while a captivating painting could be the seed for a visual masterpiece.

4. Explore Different Cultures:
Stories are deeply embedded in culture. Exploring different cultural narratives, folklore, and traditions can open up a wealth of new ideas. Travel, even if just through documentaries and books, can expose you to a multitude of stories that are just waiting to be adapted for the screen.

5. Stay Informed:
Current events and societal issues often reflect the pulse of the times and can be a potent source of inspiration. Keeping abreast of news, social movements, and global trends can help you create stories that are relevant and thought-provoking. Think about how contemporary issues can be woven into engaging narratives that resonate with audiences.

6. Reimagine Existing Stories:
Many successful TV shows and films are reimaginings of classic tales, historical events, or even other media forms. Consider how you can put a fresh spin on an existing story. What new perspective can you bring to a well-known narrative? How can you modernize a classic tale or retell a historical event in a way that speaks to today’s audience?

7. Brainstorm with Others:
Collaboration can be a powerful tool in the creative process. Brainstorming with friends, colleagues, or fellow writers can generate ideas you might not come up with on your own. A casual conversation can lead to the birth of an exciting new concept. Don’t underestimate the value of bouncing ideas off others and seeing where the dialogue leads.

8. Keep a Journal:
Inspiration can strike at any moment. Keeping a journal to jot down ideas, interesting observations, or snippets of dialogue can help ensure that fleeting thoughts are captured and can be developed later. Review your journal regularly; you may find that combining two or more seemingly unrelated ideas can lead to a groundbreaking concept.

Inspiration for TV and film ideas is everywhere, if you know where to look. By staying curious, observant, and open to the world around you, you’ll be well-equipped to discover the stories that are worth telling. Whether drawing from personal experiences or finding new angles on familiar tales, the next great idea might be closer than you think.

A big well done to all our KZN-based artists who have been booked for work recently! Your dedication and talent continue to shine brightly. We’ll be sharing more about your incredible projects and achievements on our social media channels, so stay tuned!

We are thrilled to announce that our very own Dr Thembi Mtshali-Jones has been nominated for a Simon Sabela award in the category of Best Supporting Actress in Film! This prestigious recognition is a testament to Dr. Mtshali-Jones’ outstanding talent and hard work. Congratulations, Mam’ Thembi – we are immensely proud of you!

We recently hosted a highly successful online voice workshop led by our head of Voice, Kristy. The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for artists to hone their vocal skills and learn from Kristy’s vast expertise. We want to highlight the incredible work and skills shared by both the participants and Kristy. Your commitment to improving your craft is truly inspiring!

In today’s digital age, mastering the art of self-tapes is crucial for any actor. Here’s a tip to help you stand out:
Lighting is Key: Ensure your self-tape is well-lit. Natural light is best, so if possible, position yourself facing a window. If you’re using artificial lighting, place lights in front of you at a 45-degree angle to avoid harsh shadows. Good lighting will make your tape look professional and help casting directors see your expressions clearly.

As we continue through July, let’s keep supporting and celebrating each other.

Thank you for being an integral part of the Talent-Etc family. Your passion, dedication, and talent make our community truly exceptional.

Love and light…
Justin & Fundi

SAGE WORDS by Sean Munday

As people, the most valuable resource we possess is time. When you work a job you are being paid for your time. When you go on holiday, do a hobby, or go to the gym you are taking time for yourself. And the most valuable gift you can give someone is your undivided attention, your time. So in every moment, reflect on how you are spending your time and how it is serving you. It’s ok to do nothing with your time if you feel you need to disconnect and recharge. It’s ok to spend your time working intensely towards a goal. But too much of anything will lead to imbalances and negative consequences. The key is balance.

Wishing you all the best this July, and spend your time wisely.

THEATREby Katie Groves

Hello hello,
Season’s greetings for the chilly autumn/winter days that we are experiencing.

Just a reminder, from the singing agent, to look after your health. Go for your vitamin B shots, lots of honey and lemon in warm water, steam, hydrate, and make sure that you are warm, cozy and looking after yourself.

The theatre division is full steam ahead, something I never get tired of saying! We are going, going, going. What this does mean, is that sometimes we get desensitised to briefs because of their frequency. Remember, auditioning for so many is never a bad thing! Go… just go, get the experience, get used to auditioning, get back into auditioning. Also, if the brief has been sent to you, specifically from theatre’s side, it is for a reason. If you feel it doesn’t apply, please reach out, and I am more than happy to chat about it.

Please keep up-skilling yourself, no one has ever “finished” vocal training, or dance class. You need to maintain it.

As always,
Love and light

Katie
