We are also excited to welcome Dirk Joubert to the team as Crew Agent for CREW-ETC. We are so grateful for the immense growth of our crew division in the last year and a half despite a national lock down and restriction levels. In 2020 our crew members are definitely expanding their borders with more international work secured.
2020 was a great year to plan, step back and strategise. I always say, a dream without a plan, is just a wish. So, we are making our ETC dreams come true.

The season is getting busy in KZN with the country having gone back to level 1. We are consistently encouraging artists, especially those booked on various sets across the country, to diligently adhere to health and safety regulations and have fun!
Our artists have been rocking the self-tape game and it’s translating very well so we’re excited about what’s happening here. There have been some really cool briefs coming in and it’s been amazing to see the great standard of delivery and we say well done to everyone!
Talent ETC KZN also celebrates the bookings that have happened over the last month, in that we also celebrate the lives of great Artists who have bowed to the final curtain call this month.
Our deepest condolences to their families and the family of King Goodwill Zwelethini who was a champion and active member in the preservation of culture and heritage through the Arts. May the path they walked inspire incredible stories and storytelling.

Into the second quarter of the year, here we go. As Covid cases have lessened the film & television industry seems to be opening up more and more with a number of international productions already having come to our shores again. This is positive news for all the freelancers out there, but caution must also be taken when looking ahead. The likely hood of a third wave is very high, so we must all tread carefully and not take the new uptake of work for granted. Work carefully with your earnings and put away for the possibility of a patch of rougher waters.
But enough with the morbid tone. On to some good news. The TETC family is growing. This month sees the introduction of a new team member at Crew-Etc, Dirk Joubert. Dirk, we welcome you to the team and look forward to tapping into your logistical and creative combo of experience.
Now let’s go tackle April.

ALL NEW! Talent ETC Voice Division
This month we are deep in pre-preproduction for our new Voice Over page on the TETC Website. We want to make it very easy to find the perfect voice – and do to this, we are refining our search engine.
All our artists are eagerly sorting out their demos and showcase clips to make sure that we get the best shot at booking that voice over – every time!
We are offering a host of services such as coaching, copywriting for scripts and studio time for those artists who don’t have access to those services, and it’s been an exciting week of creating and streamlining our offerings.
Once our top artists are loaded and the new page is launched, we will be holding some workshops and coaching sessions for aspiring artists. We are passionate about continuous improvement!
We look forward to seeing what our artists have to offer!

As social platforms introduce new features and change their algorithms, social media trends likewise undergo an evolution. Take Instagram Stories, for example. A few years ago, Snapchat was known for its disappearing, FOMO-inducing content, but there didn’t appear to be a wide appetite for similar features on other networks. Now, over 500 million people use the feature daily on Instagram, and more and more platforms are adding equivalent features.
SOCIAL MEDIA BRANDING

The pandemic era fast tracked a road we were already on. It filtered out the personalities with a social media brand and those who just had following. With the ample time we had during level 5 and 4 content creators were pushed to think outside the box. I truly believe that the authentic social media personalities came out on top. Having a social media brand is not necessarily about the following you have. It is about how your personality and content contribute to how you make your followers feel.
Are they inspired? encouraged? motivated? educated or entertained?
Does your brand captivate them to search for you and to keep up with you despite the social media algorithms?
Forget the following. How many of your followers engage with your posts? How many of your followers watch your stories, share them and save them. Those are the stats brands look at.
So, in the month of April, I challenge you to ask yourself what is my brand and how am I relaying it authentically on to my social media. If you identify as a creative is this filtering through your posts?
Lastly, do not over think social media as its trends are always changing. Remember to be yourself and to showcase the best version of yourself just like you would send your best self-tape.
The social media boom for influencers has exposed that numbers are just that numbers, a following does not mean you have a brand or that brands trust you with their brands. Your brand is what will clients to trust you with their campaigns.
Rise as an influential media personality and not an influencer who is run by the trends.

NFVF And Netflix Sign Partnership To Fund Local Filmmakers – Joint Fund Valued At R28 Million To Provide 100% Funding To 6 Micro-budget Films To Boost Recovery for South Africa’s Creative Industry
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, is proud to announce its latest partnership. Netflix, the world’s leading streaming service with 204 million subscribers globally is joining forces with the NFVF in a partnership valued at R28 million to produce six South African feature films. The agreement will see both partners contributing R14 million each in support of the production of local films, which will include exclusive debuts on Netflix.
The NFVF, mandated to ensure the equitable growth of the audio-visual industry in South Africa, is excited to form this partnership, as it looks to create new opportunities for emerging filmmakers in the local film industry after many productions locally and internationally had to be halted/postponed due Covid-19 global lockdowns. The partnership will see 6 local films funded, categorised into 2 streams: 4 feature films with a budget of R4 million each and two feature films with a budget of R6 million each.
• Stream 1: Four Feature Films by emerging filmmakers
capped at R4 000 000
• Stream 2: Fictional Feature Films by established
filmmakers capped at R6 000 000
The funding for the films will alleviate the pressure filmmakers face to raise additional funding and boost recovery of the creative industry from the pandemic, whilst ensuring job creation. All 6 films created from this fund will premiere on Netflix first.
“We are excited as the NFVF to be partnering with Netflix and appreciate their investment into local content. The incorporation of digital platforms into our traditional processes can only benefit the industry further. We hope this is simply the start in what will no doubt be a long and fruitful relationship,” comments NFVF CEO, Makhosazana Khanyile.
“The past year has been incredibly difficult with the pandemic hitting so many industries around the world. The creative community, that we are a part of, has supported us through the good times so we want to help them continue to create the stories our members love through the $1 million Covid Relief Fund contribution we started last year in collaboration with SASFED and IPO to help below-the-line workers in South Africa’s creative industry and now, we’re excited to take this a step further with this joint fund with NFVF for above-the-line talent,” says Netflix’s Director of Content in Africa, Ben Amadasun.
