Originally from the UK, Gemma came out with a 1st class Musical Theatre Diploma from The Whitehall College of Performing Arts in London, also gaining her Speech and Drama Licenciate with Trinity Guildhall and her advanced I.S.T.D in Modern, Tap and Checcehtti Ballet. Whilst training she was invited for vocal lessons with the prestigious Helena Shenal who taught the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey and musical theater star Ruthie Henshall. After leaving college Gemma proceeded to a number of theatre jobs in London including “Saturday Night Live” performances at the London Palladium , Theatre Royal and Her Majesties. She also performed for Prince Charles at he’s 50th Birthday celebrations at the Lyceam Theatre and danced behind Robbie Williams. Television work in the UK included The Gerri Halliwell’s “Its Raining Men” music video, the “Weird Sister” children’s program for the BBC and “The Barrymore Show” for Granada television. Before leaving the UK she also recorded a new musical album for the musical “The Little Ballerina” written by Bradley Snelling. From here Gemma continued her career as a lead production vocalist for Carnival Cruises where she traveled to America and the Caribbean. After visiting friends in SA she auditioned for “That’ll be the Day” the Buddy Holly story at the Lyric Theatre, and so begun her love affair with SA! Many musicals followed including playing Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady”, Hoddle in “Fiddler on the Roof” , Janet in “The Rocky Horror Show”, Lou-Anne in “Hairspray”, Wendy-Jo in ‘Footloose” Lisa in “Mama Mia” , Christine in “The Boys in a Photograph” just to mention just a few. She has also traveled Australia and New Zealand playing Agnitha in “The Abba Story” and went to Athens in Greece with Jesus Christ Superstar. Moving on from Theatre Gemma now has her own school in SA called Stageworx Performing Arts School which is responsible for training some of the most talented children in the country and an Entertainments Company with Charlotte Butler where she provides entertainment for the corporate and casino sector. In 2014 she was lucky enough to be part of producing two Children’s musicals “The Big Bad Musical” for Monte Casino and “Too Much Punch For Judy” for The Roodepoort Theatre. Her new concept Born To Perform is in full swing and she has just produced a Christmas special for MNET under this bannor. Born To Perform is a platform created to showcase young talent in SA. In 2015 the Born To Perform Gala show took place at the Lyric Theatre staring some local celebs and the next one is planned for this year December. On top of all of this Gemma enjoys being a mum to her son Malakai.
